Signal Flow

in a Multi-Track Based Recording Studio

Review

Note that as you add more pieces, the system becomes more complex and routing becomes more elaborate.  When you add digital components to a modular multi-track rig, the pathways change.  A patchbay is not needed if one has a digital mixer.  Busses can be configured with software switches and setups can be saved and recalled.  Also, some of the better digital mixers don't require an audio interface to connect to a computer.  They may have a firewire option that links the desk to the DAW.  These systems tend to be more expensive.
